This leaves us nearly speechless. Here in the US, where many states have execution by lethal injection, there have been horrifying instances in which the drugs did not work as intended, causing suffering that has led to calls for abandoning this means of capital punishment. Belgium does not have capital punishment, presumably because the Belgians consider it cruel, yet they are now allowing a prisoner who complains of not having been given treatment he needed, to be killed by lethal injection!
